One of the best things about the Québec City area is just how easy it
is to get to, with direct access to much of North America by air, rail,
and road.
Québec City is also a gateway to the Great Lakes, linking the
industrial and agricultural heartlands of North America to the rest of
the world.
Its year-round deep water port welcomes
vessels of up to 150,000 tons and boasts a number of dry bulk cargo
terminals, notably for ore, grain, and fertilizer. Over 27 million tons
of merchandise pass through the port every year.
From May to October, Québec City is a popular stop for cruise ships
from Europe and the United States and each year welcomes more than
100,000 passengers and crew.
Québec’s central location has
encouraged numerous businesses to set up shop in the city. They
operate in all kinds of sectors, including the transportation,
construction, and agrifood industries.
And flying to the city couldn’t be easier. Jean Lesage International
Airport—the province’s second biggest airport—is just a short
20 minute drive from downtown. The facility, which recently
underwent a complete facelift, welcomed over one million passengers in
2008.
The province’s 4,500 km highway network is among
the most developed in Canada and links the city to the rest of
Canada and the United States.
