Québec City has created a number of welcome and support services in partnership with Ministère de l'Immigration et des Communautés Culturelles. Some 40 other groups assist them in smoothing newcomers’ transition to life in the provincial capital.

Employment Assistance

Canadian practice firms network

The Canadian Practice Firms Network is an organization that links all Canadian PFs (practice firms) and provides them with support, representation, and operating assistance. PFs work together with Emploi Québec to help new immigrants find work, and are the best way for newcomers to integrate into Québec’s job market.

This adult education center specializes in French language instruction and social and professional integration, and is conveniently located near Arche de Noé daycare.

Centre R.I.R.E. 2000

Centre R.I.R.E offers courses in computing, French, and English, and an accelerated membership program for people with foreign engineering credentials wishing to join Ordre des Ingénieurs de Québec. The center also organizes activities to raise awareness about multiculturalism.

Institut international de développement régional (IIDR)

IIDR helps Québec businesses capitalize on immigration through initiatives like recruiting immigrants to meet regional demand for skilled labor, supporting and advising newcomers looking to enter the job market or invest in promising projects, assessing regional businesses’ human resources needs and proposing concrete solutions and measures to address problems identified, and ensuring a clear line of communication between businesses and immigrants, particularly through a number of communication-based activities.

Office français de l’immigration et de l’intégration (OFII)

OFII is a non-profit organization that welcomes foreigners and immigrants. Established through an agreement between the French and Québec governments in 1989, its mission is to guide, inform, and assist French nationals looking for work in Québec.

Option-travail

Option-travail provides education and job market advice to new immigrants through the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés Culturelles French language program. It also offers a referral service to ensure that newcomers get the help they need and supports them throughout their adjustment to life in Québec.

Service d'orientation et d'intégration des immigrants au travail de Québec inc. (SOIIT)

SOIIT helps businesses and organizations employ immigrants and eases immigrants’ transition into the workplace using tools such as competency assessments, adapted training sessions, paid internships, mentoring programs, recruitment, screening processes, subsidies, diversity management, etc.

Québec intégration et liaison internationale

This organization promotes synergy in activities for the socioeconomic integration of immigrants, particularly visible minorities. It also sponsors youth in distress living in conflict zones, helps young immigrants with educational decision making and labor market integration, and provides conflict mediation services for immigrant families.

Ruche Vanier inc. (La)

La Ruche works to improve quality of life for Vanier borough residents by organizing various community services such as a community grocery store, income tax workshops, programs and activities, etc. La Ruche has also formed a welcome committee for new immigrants that makes welcome visits, provides opportunities to practice French, and organizes intercultural activities.

Service d'aide à l'adaptation des immigrants et immigrantes (S.A.A.I.)

S.A.A.I. facilitates immigrant enculturation and increases Quebecers’ awareness of multiculturalism in Québec City. VEQ acts as a representative for the English-speaking community in the Québec City and Chaudière-Appalaches regions. It offers newcomers helpful services like personal assistance and reference and documentation services.

Education

Cégep Limoilou

CÉGEP Limoilou offers nearly 30 different pre-university and technical programs leading to a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DCS). It also offers shorter programs of study leading to an Attestation of Collegial Studies (ACS).

The CÉGEP boasts two campuses, one in Québec City and the other in Charlesbourg. It is also home to a crafts training and consultation center and six educational workshops.
